This thesis examines group fitness instructor’s vision of the internal communication in one of the larg- est sports centres in Sweden, IKSU, and is by that partly constructed on behalf of IKSU’s interest. The main purpose of the thesis is to explore challenges and possible ways of improvement of the internal communication in general, and the Intranet in specific. Specifically it examines the perception of the communication structure, channels to communicate within the organization and attitudes towards and uses of the Intranet. The empirical data derives from a web survey that is based upon a quantitative methodology, containing multiple choice questions and positions, with a few qualitative elements in forms of open ended questions. The elementary theoretical perspectives and conceptualizations used are organizational communication, literature of internal communication and science of the usability and functions of Intranets. The results of the study show that IKSU is to be seen as a modern organization with a mainly good communication structure, including many ways of communicating. Group fitness instructors view the internal communication as important and well functioning, where communication channels, including the Intranet, are used frequently and in a relatively effective way. The Intranet is also seen as an im- portant and effective communication protocol, yet lacking fellowship and interaction design. It is ob- served that these two less existent elements also are the most distinctive solutions of how to improve the internal communication structure and the atmosphere overall. Irrespective of communicating with the Management, instructor colleagues or other working units, the instructor’s request better commu- nication skills, especially within the Intranet.
