A survey of phosphorus inputs to the sewage treatment plant in Lycksele urban area
The purpose of this study was to identify what is causing the increased phosphorus load in the incoming water to the Lycksele waste water treatment plants in recent years. In order to locate the emission source water was sampled at several points in the sewer network. Both single (active) and passive measurements were used. I made an inventory of 16 activities in Lycksele, which potentially could release phosphorus. Inventories were made in the form of interviews with companies that were mainly located in industrial areas. Water samples were taken at several specific points, except at one point where only spot- checks was possible to take. The passive samplers were placed at seven points over 14 days to measure the average phosphate concentration in the water. The results from the active water samples did not show where the higher levels of phosphorus may have originated from. The passive sampling showed that the phosphate content is slightly higher for two points located opposite the industrial area compared with the other sampling stations. The inventories of the companies did not give any clues to what may be the cause of the repeated phosphorus peaks.
