Abstract [en]

Water managing at Ragn-Sells establishments in Region Nord in Sweden – a survey and a base for short- and long-term plans

The aim of this study is to survey Ragn-Sells AB’s (one of the leading waste recycling companies in Sweden) water managing routines within their establishments in northern Sweden. This study was proposed by Ragn-Sells AB with the ultimate goal to minimize the environmental hazards in their establishments. All establishments have been visited to get an overview of each place including wastewater management. The persons in charge of each establishment have been interviewed about wastewater routines. Any kind of water that gets in contact with an area where waste is stored or handled becomes a potential hazard to the environment. No matter whether it is storm-, waste- or leaching water, the effects on the environment are often negative, as water percolating waste often is contaminated with chemicals. The damage potentially increases with increasing solubility of the chemicals. According to this study, most establishments are managing their wastewater well. However, some establishments need changing their sampling routines or make minor changes in the water managing routines. This study is a planning basis for Ragn-Sells to plan for short- and long-term measures to reduce environmental impact.
