waste management at Rönnskärsverken

The aim of this study was to investigate how to increase the recycling of non-process waste and how to reduce waste sent to landfill. To get information about waste management in Rönnskärsverken a couple of interviews have been done in different departments of the industry. To get knowledge and good practice in how handle non-process waste two industries have been visited. Further, statistics has been collected from environmental reports of Rönnskärsverken. The result shows that the waste management is quite good but that it may be improved in some aspects. Today some of the waste is recycled within industry, while others go external treatment. There are more than 30 stations where containers for waste iron and metal, wood waste, combustible waste and waste to landfill within the industry. There is also a recycling center for hazardous waste, located in the middle of the industry. The conclusions are that Rönnskärsverken can improve their waste management with better incident reports from inappropriate waste sorting, labeling containers and hazardous waste and better information to the employees.
