Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
The purpose of this essay is to study how student with dyslexia /documented reading and writing disabilities perceive their learning environment in Swedish and English teaching. I also intend to look at the teacher's strategies for creating a stimulating learning environment.Four students have been interviewed. The observations have been conducted in the classroom of two Swedish and two English teachers, teaching current students. The observations and interviews have been conducted in order to give a wider picture over the students’ experiences in the classroom. The result of this study shows that the students are able to acknowledge important factors in their teaching environment. The students’ experiences show that learning is better in a quiet and calm environment with guidance from an adult (teacher?). They express their need for adaption in their education by using for example compensatory technology, such as computers, extended time during exams, clear and structured assignments. The observations indicated that the teachers in the study, not always have the qualification and knowledge of what adaption students with reading and writing disabilities are entitled of.
