Abstract [en]

During the last two years I’ve been teaching newly arrived students in Swedish as a second language. When introducing formative assessment one of the greatest difficulties has been to communicate the targets of the curriculum. Therefore the practical purpose of this study was to improve my own teaching on that basis. The scientific aim was to introduce didactical tools that are highlighted by educational research for formative purposes and make visible the reception of these tools by the students and the teacher. This study has the nature of action research, and was introduced in a class where I teach. The result is based on observations, interviews, research diary and text analyses. Both the teacher and the students were initially unsatisfied with the outcome of the introduction of the new tools, but by the end of the project the majority of the participants could see advantages with the different didactical tools. The result show the importance of letting the implementation of new methods take time, so the students can see the purpose of the different tools and learn how to use them.
