Reading speed and reading comprehension before and after intervention (English)
Reading ability consists of Reading speed and reading comprehension. I have chosen to study these
factors closer in this report, which is built on a small study where I have studied pupils´ Reading speed
and Reading comprehension before and after tests with different testmaterials, as for example H4
(Reading speed), Bokstavs- och Ordkedjor (decoding) and Vilken bild är rätt? (Reading comprehension).
Gustafsson and Rosén (2005) did a comparison of 9-10-year-olds´ reading between 1999 and 2001. It
shows that the reading ability has dropped during these 10 years. I decided to work with three pupils that
showed low results on the tests. These three pupils were a part of special intervention during eight weeks
and the result showed progress for the pupils. The results were better in most areas, but a further work
with these pupils´ reading ability will be required.
