The purpose of this study was to investigate the phosphorus contributing sources and the amount of emissions that may have a eutrophication impact on a stream. The study considers a stream in Örnsköldsviks municipality in Sweden, and covers the limited catchment area around Höglandssjön-Idbyfjärden. The area was investigated by the sources: wastewater facilities, municipal sewerage system focusing on overflowing wastewater from sewer networks and agricultural land. Environmental reports were read to determine the amount of the load coming from overflow on the sewerage system in the municipal wastewater. The annual average value of the incoming phosphorous to the treatment plant was used to calculate the total amount of the overflow. Load coming from wastewater facilities was counted by using a calculation model from SMED (Swedish environmental emission database). The load from agricultural land was calculated by using statistical data from SCB (Statistics Sweden). The results of the study showed that the sources agricultural land and the overflow from the municipal sewerage system had the highest amount of phosphorus which may have an impact on the watercourse. Although there is more phosphorus contributing sources around the catchment area to investigate that may have a eutrophication effect on the stream. The study can be considered as an estimate of the phosphorous load that occurs from the investigated sources.
