Abstract [en]

This is a case study about how local authority performs inclusion of intellectually disabled pupils on senior level of a compulsory school in a wellborn municipality in the south of Sweden. It is based on analysis of govering documents on different levels, interviews with staff involved inconcrete inclusion processes, classroom observations and deep interview with one of the intellectually disabled pupils. Three perspectives on special education have guided the processof analysis. The result indicate a difference in interpreting the inclusion concept both in theory and practice. The main obtacle to fulfil inclusion achivements is lack of resources such as money,time and knowledge. The analysis of the special education perspectives indicated many complex dilemmas that the pupil and the staff had to solve every day. The overall result indicates that when the Salamanca statement is not followed by the school staff, there is a risk of marginalization of the pupil with an intellectual disability. This paper gives new ideas for studies about young people with intellectual disabilities.
