Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to investigate which factors that may affect the households to separate organic food waste and which systems for handling the waste could be suitable in Örnsköldsvik municipality. The used methods were surveys and interviews in the municipalities of Umeå, Skellefteå and Örnsköldsvik. The result shows that environmental, and also financial, benefits may affect households to separate organic food waste. The study also shows that some households choose to compost the organic waste within the household to get good topsoil. The conclusion of the study is that it is important for the municipality to distribute informative and easily comprehensive information about the project to the households and also to offer the households simple, environmental friendly and financial benefit alternatives of waste management. It is also important for the municipality to listen to what the households want to get a good result of the food waste recycling.
