Abstract [en]

This study is about effects of a solution focused work place intervention. The purpose was to enhance knowledge regarding how personnel in a medium sized organisation experience possible effects and differences in behaviour followed by a short organisational development activity (one day followed by a half day follow up after five weeks). Data was gathered through eight semi-structured interviews with participants from the work place interventions and two observations of the intervention. The results show that being invited to make a difference is a deciding factor for participants with regards to motivation and willingness to continue to be active within developing and change processes. The participants described that changes in the interaction between the personnel had occurred as a result of the intervention and felt this had contributed to a more positive climate in the company. It was said that colleagues listened to each other more and that the way they greeted each other had changed in a positive way. Overall, findings indicated that the value of social interaction and individual possibilities to influence, as well as being involved and respected, are of great importance for the outcome. The data also indicates the value of social interaction within the social context of the actual organization in that it enhances individual motivation. Furthermore, this study also indicates the importance of the attention and encouragement given by leaders in order to create motivation and engagement in the organisation.
