Reading comprehension in grades 7-9 : A study of three teachers’ instructions (English)
The aim of this study was to find out how three teachers instructed pupils in reading comprehension in the grades 7-9 and how they experienced their opportunities to a promoting teaching in reading comprehension. Questions were; how the teachers plan and implement their instructions so that the pupils understand what they read; how the teachers find out if the pupils understand what they read; if the teachers have educational discussions with each other; and if research in the field is reflected in the teaching. I interviewed a teacher in science, a teacher in civics and a Swedish teacher and observed one of their lessons. The results showed that they used a lot of strategies that promote reading comprehension accordning to research but their opportunities to a promoting teaching in reading comprehension were limited.
