The aim of the study is to investigate what possibilities teachers have to identify bilingual pupils in the younger years in elementary school risking to develop reading and writing difficulties. A part of this aim is to examine the available working methods of the teachers, as well as how they collaborate on the younger pupil´s reading and writing skills. Qualitative interviews are conducted and a total of six teachers have been involved in the study. The results show that the school has a good chance of discovering multilingual pupils who are at risk of developing reading and writing difficulties. However, according to the results there are several difficulties connected to the pupils´ skills and multilingualism. Moreover, the teacher’s further education as well as their mutual cooperation could be improved.
