Language supporting environments : A study in three school forms with pupils with language difficulties. (English)
The purpose of this study is to investigate language supporting environment for pupils with language difficulties in three different school forms; a traditional elementary school, special education school (for pupils with mild intellectual disability) and language school. I have observed how the physical classroom environment, the language learning opportunities and how to interact in the classroom looks like. This is a qualitative study to show how it can look like in different school forms. I make comparison of these school forms but I can´t make any conclusions about how it generally is in school forms like these. My study starts with a background description of language difficulties and what research has shown to be significant factors of language bracing elements. The results show that the language school, where focus is specific at language development, has a significantly greater awareness of how to interact. What differentiates the various types of schools is especially the size of the class and how the interaction is formed. The teacher in elementary school has more focus on the subject and what is to be learned. The teacher in language school has a communicative focus. The study also shows that the special education teacher has a different role in elementary school compared to the two other school forms.
