Abstract [en]

A study has been conducted with the aim to investigate young people's perception of the relationship between cyber bullying and self-image and their perception of which role gender plays in this relationship. Three focus group interviews were conducted with six to seven participants in each. The majority (16/19) of participants were women. A thematic analysis was used in which five themes were identified. The results show that there is a perception of a link between cyber bullying and self-image in which people who become cyber bullied have lower self-image and poor self-image can contribute to the experience of feeling cyber bullied. Furthermore, participants indicated that cyber bullying takes place differently among men and women. The importance of a good self-image and how it is linked to cyber bullying, as well as the experiences of gender differences, are discussed.

Abstract [sv]

En kvalitativ studie har genomförts där syftet var att undersöka ungdomars uppfattning om sambandet mellan cybermobbning och självbild samt deras uppfattning om vilken roll kön spelar i förhållande till cybermobbning och självbild. Tre fokusgruppsintervjuer genomfördes med sex till sju deltagare i varje. Majoriteten (16/19) av deltagare var kvinnor. En tematisk analys användes där fem teman identifierades. Resultatet visar på att det finns en uppfattning om ett samband mellan cybermobbning och självbild där personer som blir cybermobbade har sämre självbild och att dålig självbild kan bidra med upplevelsen av att känna sig cybermobbad. Vidare visade resultaten på skillnader mellan kvinnor och män där cybermobbning sker på olika sätt. Diskussion förs kring betydelsen av en bra självbild samt hur det är kopplat till cybermobbning. Vidare diskuteras upplevelser av skillnader mellan könen.
