Abstract [en]

Grants and subsides to enterprises always stir up peoples opinion and engage media. The transport grant (in Swedish Transportbidrag) is not an exception. It is a regional grant to enterprises in manufacture industry to compensate for higher transport cost due to a disadvantageous geographic location in the north regions of Sweden. It started in the beginning of the 1970s. The terms and conditions for the grant has been modified thorough the years and a few analyses and evaluations has been made of the grant. This study shows how enterprises were affected by a modification of the terms and conditions of the grant in the year of 2006 and 2007. The modification, between the years of 2006 and 2007, led tothat half of the enterprises applied and were granted the grant the year after. Almost all enterprises in the other group, that did not apply, had activity in their enterprise and should therefore have applied. If the modification were reinforced in the year of 2013 it would only affect a few more enterprises compared to the year of 2006. One of the conclusions is that there were more enterprises that received the grant after the modification of the terms and conditions of the grant. Another conclusion is thatalmost the same amountofenterprises would be effected in the year of 2013. This is however not on the same level, moneywise or in number of enterprises, compared to what has been expected in earlier similiar modifications of the grant.
