Abstract [en]

Finland on Fire is an essay with the purpose of examining the public opinion in Sweden concerning the Finnish Civil War of 1918. This is done by studying and comparing press reports in Umeå's and Gothenburg's local newspapers. The research include the following topics: What topics does the newspapers report on?; How does the newspapers depict each side?; How does the newspapers discuss a possible Swedish intervention in Finland? The essay follows a qualitative content analysis of a quantized source material through hermeneutic principles, concluding that the results back earlier studies with very few reservations.
