Restaurant habits in Sweden : A surbey of adults in Sweden (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background More and more people chose to eat more of their meals at restaurants. Reasons such as lack of time and sociable aspects have often been given. Some studies have also shown a correlation between restaurant habits and a person’s consumption of fruit and vegetables.

Method A questionnaire was spread through the Internet to gather information. The questionnaire contained nine factual questions and also questions regarding the variables mentioned above. The data was analyzed with Fisher’s exact test in SPSS 20.0 with a level of significance set at p=<0,05.

Objective The objective of this study was to study the restaurant habits within adults in Sweden to see if correlations could be found within gender, age, size of home district, socioeconomic variables and dietary habits.

Results 116 people, 86 women and 30 men, answered the questionnaire. There was a correlation between gender and frequency of restaurant visits as well as gender and on what occasions and for what reasons they were visited. Age showed a correlation with frequency of visits and on what occasions they were visited. Other variables correlation with the occasions restaurant were visited were level if income and occupation. Reasons for visiting restaurants correlated with, apart from gender, level of income and size of home district and household size.

Conclusion The results showed how the variables gender, age, level of income, occupation, household size and size of home district correlated with restaurant habits. Gender was the only variable correlating with all the researched parts of a person’s restaurant habits. However, no correlation was found between restaurant habits and dietary habits.
