Abstract [en]

This project have been done on the order of CoreIT. The Goal of the project was to give the client a better overview but also to lay the foundation of future improvements. The question formulations and goals that were specified was the following:Find out what kind of internet connection Fenix Outdoors external offices has and try out the network capacity.To run Iperf at different points in time between all the offices and the server hall and document the results.To document latency between the offices and the server hall.Check the actual bandwidth usage on the offices over a time period of one day or one week.Internet capacity has been answered with a tool called Tp-test. This tool test the ability a unit has to send and receive data. An offices internet connection could then be calculated from the results of the measurements. To see that the reasonable transfer rate against the server hall could be done compared to Internet capacity a tool called LAN Speed test where used on different occasions. Latency was also measured for the offices towards the server hall with the help of Nettools. The logs was also taken to see if the offices bandwidth usage was at reasonable levels.All the results from the test were compiled based on a template and transferred to the client. The information from the results is confidential though so only examples were allowed to be shown in this report. It is possible to get a good overview with the help of these results how the network is scaled against demands and where future improvements could be needed. Example of that is that it was possible to notice that some of the firewalls needed to be upgraded so that the transfer rate would improve when the network capacity was a lot higher.The project that has been conducted has been precisely what my education had prepared me for and it has been interesting to see how my education is used in working life. The project answered everything that was specified in the question formulations from CoreITs order. I think that the project was a success when it strove to give an overview and faults could be revealed thanks to the results.
