Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

In this study, four unit managers´ experiences of obstacles and opportunities in the implementation of health promotion was investigated. Data collection was conducted through interviews. A qualitative content analysis with abductive approach was performed. The theme that emerged was participation which consisted of two categories; obstacles and opportunities. Barriers consisted of increased costs, increased workload for the manager, communication, lack of participation and a negative attitude. Possibilities of implementation contained of the managers´ approach, scheduling of interventions, that participants were given tools in their ongoing health promotive work, a perceived participation and a positive attitude. The results were discussed based on the concepts of participation, SOC (Sense of Coherence) and requirements and control theory. The conclusion of the study is that the importance of participation in the implementation of health promotion is of great value. More future research is needed to clarify the relationship between the possibilities of implementing health interventions and perceived participation.
