Abstract [en]

During the last few years the build-up of Russian military capability has attracted increased attention in the West. This attention has mainly focused on procurement and exercises, etc., but there is one aspect htat has been more or less overlooked: civilian-military cooperation. Undoubtedly, this plays a crucial role when waging war in today's modern world and an area which, during the last few years, has received more attention and experienced an extensive development i Russia. This article highlights recent developments in the area of civilian-military cooperation based on open sources and aims at giving an insight into the development of civilian-military cooperation in Russia and how it is organized and what has been accomplished. One important conclusion is that this area should be given more attention and not be overlooked when assessing Russian military capability. Another aspect is also that there might be something to learn from Russian efforts when re-establishing our own capability in this field.
