Abstract [en]

The new multi-channel retail environment sets higher demands for the IKEA storesto maintain a high level of stock accuracy. This report aims to describe how improvedroutines and guidelines for inventory management can help the IKEA Älmhult storeto contribute to an improved stock accuracy.The report begins with a literature review and a qualitative analysis in how the IKEA Älmhult store manages their inventory routines today. Different problem areas aredescribed and its impact in terms of costs are presented. The IKEA Älmhult store isalso benchmarked with other IKEA stores in Sweden.The study resulted in suggestions in improvementof inventory routines and in a mathematically modeled inventory calendar. The calendar is based on an ABC-analysisof the different product areas of the IKEA Älmhult store. The report ends with a discussion and final recommendations. The recommendations specially suggest that the employees need more awareness of the problem and itsimpact, which can be obtained through training of the employees and clearerguidelines.The conclusion is that improved routines can help the IKEA Älmhult storeincrease their stock accuracy and decrease its related costs. This is likely to result in a higher level of customer satisfaction.
