Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the functions of the sámi camp of Nutti Sámi Siida, a Sámi eco-tourism company located in Jukkasjärvi. Evaluations have been made through own observations, guest questionnaires and TripAdvisor. The focus of the study was laid on the museum and suggestions for improvement of the camp. Questions that were asked: “who visits the museum?”, “what do the functions of the camp look like today?” and “how do the visitors experience the functions of the camp?”. Nutti Sámi Siida is a well-attended location where satisfied visitors leave good reviews. There is a great potential for increasing the numbers of visitors if a larger part of Icehotel’s visitors find their way to the Sámi camp. The solution lies in better marketing locally and via the website. A renewed and better-maintained museum with modern information techniques and more interactive features is desired. The reindeer is one of the most appreciated features of the museum. A greater focus on its part in Sámi life will set grounds for continuously satisfied visitors.
