Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine how self-evaluated mental health of patients affect how the working alliance was perceived. The study is based on collected data from the research database of psychological studies at Umeå Universitet, where clients have completed the self-evaluation tests of Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation – Outcome Measure (CORE-OM), measuring mental health, along with Working Alliance Inventory (WAI), measuring working alliance. The sample consisted of 144 patients who all completed both CORE-OM (before and after therapy) and WAI (after therapy). The results of the study showed a link between mental health; ”functioning”, ”risk” and ”motivation” and working alliance. High self-rated ”functioning”, ”risk” and ”motivation” resulted in higher self-assed working alliance. The relationship between mental health and working alliance needs to be investigated further into how “risk taking” and ”motivation” affect the working alliance.
