    Abstract

    Background: Prostatic neoplasm is the most common form of cancer for men and affects 10 440 in Sweden each year. One of the most common treatments when removing the prostate is prostatectomy. The most common side effects after prostatektomy is erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinens. In order to provide good nursing and correct information so that these men can get a good deal and easier to live with complications, it is important to know how prostatectomy affects men's experiences.

    Aim: The purpose with this literature study was to illuminate men´s experience with erectile dysfunction and urinary incontinens after completed prostatektomy as a consecution of prostate neoplasm.

    Method: A systematic literature owerview with an qualitative approach whas used. Pubmed, CINAHL and PsycINFO was used for the search. Ten articles where included and analysed with qualitativ analysis of the text.

    Resultat: Four kategorys was produced; Psychological effects, Social effects, The inportance of support and The return to the weekday, with twelve appurtenant subcategorys.

    Conclusion: The study shows that most men experience a change in sexuality and slef-esteem due to erectil dysfunction and urinary incontinence. The study also shows lack of support and information in health care. Proposals for further studies are about how family members feel it is living with a man who has undergone a prostatectomy and how the operation affects the family. Further information is needed on how healthcare support and information can be improved.
