    Abstract [en]

This is a study about how much time is dispensed to teachers who teach science and English in Swedish upper secondary schools, how they feel about the amount of time they are given and how the teachers deal with lack of time when that problem arises. The data is collected through a number of channels; e-mailing the schools to find out how much time is dispensed, an online survey about the teachers’ opinions on the subject, and interviews with teachers about how they deal with lack of time. Firstly, the study shows that there is significant variation in the amount of hours dispensed for the classes which cover the same amount of materials. Secondly, it shows that many teachers are concerned about the amount of time that is dispensed, and feel that it is not enough to cover the courses. Thirdly, it shows that teachers are not taught how to handle lack of time and that all those who participated in the study deal with lack of time in the same way; they remove content from the course.
