    Abstract [en]

Background: According to the World Health Organization report from 2017, 1 out of 160 children have ASD in the world. Attributes that characterize ASD are impaired abilities in social and communicative interaction. Issues concerning daily life and how it's affected by a child with ASD diagnosis, and what tools a registered nurse can use to provide safe and secure adequate care for children with AST is relatively unexplored.Aim: The purpose was to highlight mothers' experiences of living with children diagnosed within the Autism spectrum.Method: A literature study based on nine empirical studies with qualitative research method has been analyzed and compiled. The studies were conducted in the PubMed, PsychInfo and Cinahl databases.Result: The analysis resulted in three main categories: Appointed and excluded by society, Joy and frustration in family life and the great challenges of the Mother. The literature study shows that mothers' experiences of living with children with AST diagnosis can include different feelings and individual experiences. Common to most mothers is stress, concern and stigmatization. Conclusion: The experience of living with a child with AST diagnosis may include many emotions, however the experiences are individual. Common to most mothers is: stress, concern and stigmatization. Registered nurses can have an important role in being responsive and taking the mothers seriously. In summary, the literature study suggests that there is insufficient knowledge in society concerning ASD.
