Inom perioden 2018-2023 kommer CAMP att etableras som ett internationellt erkänt centrum för FoU av ATMP.","en":"Purpose and goal: Advanced therapies based on genes, cells or tissues (ATMP), have a great potential to generate completely new ways to treat patients; even to stop, reverse or cure diseases and injuries. Centre for Advanced Medical Products (CAMP) focuses on the science, technology and infrastructure required to translate ATMP from laboratory to clinical practice. The Centre also addresses systems and organisational challenges which have been identified as hurdles for development of the ATMP field in Sweden. Expected results and effects: Integration of pre-clinical, clinical, engineering and other scientific areas, with commercialisation competencies will accelerate research translation, enabling new patient treatments, and generate industrial growth. The project will optimise collaboration between ATMP infrastructures and activities in academia/healthcare and commercial pre-clinical and clinical R&D. This will facilitate further development and commercialisation of ATMP and thus increase Sweden’s competitiveness in this field. Approach and implementation: Research and innovation projects focusing on critical technological aspects of development and manufacturing of ATMP will run in parallel with Cross Cutting Priority challenges identified as important barriers or enablers for the development of the field. This combined approach will connect academic, clinical and industrial research and development in Sweden. Within the period 2018-2023, CAMP will be established as an internationally recognized centre for research and development of ATMP."},"project_id":"2017-02130_Vinnova","identifier_short":"2017-02130","dates":{"start_date":"2018-01-01","end_date":"2023-12-31"},"organizations":[{"funding":[{"_id":94,"id":"202100-5216","sv":"Vinnova","en":"Vinnova"}]},{"coordinating":[{"_id":715,"id":"202100-2874","sv":"Umeå Here, we developed a good manufacturing practice-compatible extracellular vesicle (EV)-enriched secretome from bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells and identified a laminin-521-based production strategy suitable for clinical translation. The EV-enriched secretome exhibited in vitro immunomodulatory activity, and in murine MIR-injury models, treatment preserved left ventricular ejection fraction, reduced platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFR beta)-associated myofibroblast activation quantified by positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, attenuated fibrosis, and promoted reparative macrophage polarization. In a clinically relevant porcine ischemia-reperfus ion model, intracoronary administration was cardioprotective. We further developed a clinically approved PDGFR beta-targeted PET-imaging platform for longitudinal assessment of fibrotic activity in STEMI patients, where preliminary observations suggest that myofibroblast activation persists for up to 2 months after STEMI in selected patients. Together, these findings establish a translational therapeutic-diagnostic framework for individualized management of MIR injury.","DOI":"10.1016/j.stem.2026.07.003","PMID":"42497858","ScopusId":"2-s2.0-105046282744","NBN":"urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-596212","issue":"8","volume":"33","page":"1324-1338","container-title":"Cell Stem Cell","ISSN":"1875-9777","publisher":"Cell Press","note":"These authors contributed equally: Karl-Henrik Grinnemo, Sergey Rodin","published":[{"raw":"2026-08-25T14:34:39.110+02:00"}],"created":[{"raw":"2026-08-25T14:34:39.185+02:00"}],"updated":[{"raw":"2026-08-25T14:34:39.110+02:00"}],"URL":"https://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-596212"},{"id":"diva2:1805949","type":"article-journal","status":"Published","issued":{"date-parts":[[2023]]},"title":"Patients accept therapy using embryonic stem cells for Parkinson's disease : a discrete choice experiment","language":"eng","author":[{"family":"Schölin Bywall","given":"Karin","ORCID":"0000-0002-5865-5590","localId":"karsc514","affiliation":[{"id":"1809","name":"Uppsala universitet, Centrum för forsknings- och bioetik"},{"name":"School of Health, Care and Social Welfare, Division of Health and Welfare Technology, Mälardalen University, Västerås, Sweden"}]},{"family":"Drevin","given":"Jennifer","ORCID":"0000-0003-4806-5471","localId":"jendr658","affiliation":[{"id":"1809","name":"Uppsala universitet, Centrum för forsknings- och bioetik"}]},{"family":"Groothuis-Oudshoorn","given":"Catharina"},{"family":"Veldwijk","given":"Jorien","ORCID":"0000-0003-4822-5068","localId":"jorve818","affiliation":[{"id":"1809","name":"Uppsala universitet, Centrum för forsknings- och bioetik"},{"name":"Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Rotterdam, The Netherlands; Erasmus Choice Modelling Centre, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Rotterdam, The Netherlands"}]},{"family":"Nyholm","given":"Dag","ORCID":"0000-0001-9776-7715","localId":"danyh856","affiliation":[{"id":"887057","name":"Uppsala universitet, Neurologi"}]},{"family":"Widner","given":"Hakan"},{"family":"van Vliet","given":"Trinette"},{"family":"Jiltsova","given":"Elena","localId":"eleji951","affiliation":[{"id":"887057","name":"Uppsala universitet, Neurologi"}]},{"family":"Hansson","given":"Mats","ORCID":"0000-0002-4053-8468","localId":"matshans","affiliation":[{"id":"1809","name":"Uppsala universitet, Centrum för forsknings- och bioetik"}]},{"family":"Viberg Johansson","given":"Jennifer","ORCID":"0000-0001-9533-9274","localId":"jenvi150","affiliation":[{"id":"1809","name":"Uppsala universitet, Centrum för forsknings- och bioetik"},{"name":"The Institute for Future Studies, Holländargatan 13, 111 36, Stockholm, Sweden"}]}],"abstract":"Background: New disease-modifying ways to treat Parkinson's disease (PD) may soon become a reality with intracerebral transplantation of cell products produced from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs). The aim of this study was to assess what factors influence preferences of patients with PD regarding stem-cell based therapies to treat PD in the future. Methods: Patients with PD were invited to complete a web-based discrete choice experiment to assess the importance of the following attributes: (i) type of treatment, (ii) aim of treatment, (iii) available knowledge of the different types of treatments, (iv) effect on symptoms, and (v) risk for severe side effects. Latent class conditional logistic regression models were used to determine preference estimates and heterogeneity in respondents' preferences. Results: A substantial difference in respondents' preferences was observed in three latent preference patterns (classes). \"Effect on symptoms\" was the most important attribute in class 1, closely followed by \"type of treatment,\" with medications as preferred to other treatment alternatives. Effect on symptoms was also the most important attribute in class 2, with treatment with hESCs preferred over other treatment alternatives. Likewise for class 3, that mainly focused on \"type of treatment\" in the decision-making. Respondents' class membership was influenced by their experience in treatment, side effects, and advanced treatment therapy as well as religious beliefs. Conclusions: Most of the respondents would accept a treatment with products emanating from hESCs, regardless of views on the moral status of embryos. Preferences of patients with PD may provide guidance in clinical decision-making regarding treatments deriving from stem cells.","DOI":"10.1186/s12910-023-00966-1","PMID":"37828462","ScopusId":"2-s2.0-85174217218","NBN":"urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-514599","issue":"1","volume":"24","number":"83","container-title":"BMC Medical Ethics","ISSN":"1472-6939","keyword":"Ethics; Human embryonic stem cells; Parkinson’s disease; Patient preferences","publisher":"BioMed Central (BMC)","published":[{"raw":"2023-10-19T10:05:00.000+02:00"}],"created":[{"raw":"2023-10-19T10:05:13.910+02:00"}],"updated":[{"raw":"2025-11-05T11:05:36.013+01:00"}],"URL":"https://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-514599"}],"links":[{"type":"pid","link":"https://umu.diva-portal.org/smash/api/project/swecris/project:357"}]}]
