Tittel [sv]
En nationell bio-imaging resurs för MR och nanoPET-CT för in vivo avbildning inom grundläggande och translationell biomedicinsk forskning
Tittel [en]
A National Bio-Imaging Resource for basic and translational biomedical research using MR and nanoPET-CT in vivo imaging
Abstract [sv]
The proposed Umeå Bio-Imaging Resource (UBIR) will provide a national state-of-the-art live imaging resource for life science, biomedical, and translational research. In particular, scientists from major Swedish universities; Umeå University, Karolinska Institutet, Göteborg University, together with European collaborators, are aiming to strengthen the biomedical research in the country by this joint infrastructure. The MR cryoprobes and the nanoPET-CT will be integrated in the MRI platform at the newly established Umeå Center for Comparative Biology (UCCB), a state-of-the art animal facility. It will add completely new possibilities for in vivo imaging analyses of organ and disease development, including diabetes, fatty liver, cardiovascular disease, cancer, inflammation, and neurodegenerative diseases. UBIR will provide a unique, national infrastructure open to all researchers using small animals and will facilitate research collaborations and advanced training within MRI and nanoPET-CT. Synergistic interactions, including operation, support and training exists within the clinical MRI and PET-imaging center at Norrlands University Hospital (NUS), including access to the NUS in-house cyclotron device that is a pre-requisite for production of the short-lived radionuclide tracers. The benefits of linking the UBIR with the clinical centers are obvious and facilitate the opportunity of truly translational research.
