Title [sv]
Utveckling av verktyg för analys och visualisering av databasorienterade studier inom miljöarkeologi och forntida klimat- och miljöföändringar.
Title [en]
The development of analysis and visualisation tools for database orientated environmental archaeological, palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimatic studies.
Abstract [sv]
This workshop will bring together a small multidisciplinary group of cutting-edge scientists on the theme of developing database orientated software tools for looking at data which provide the empirical support for our knowledge of past climates, environments and human interactions. It will tie in with the DISC funded SEAD project (2007-7494) and international infrastructure initiatives such as the European Pollen Database and Neotomadb. It will be hosted by and interact with HUMlab, Umeå. We will identify and draft specifications for tools and interfaces for: Combining archaeological and environmental data and interpretations; Climate reconstruction from fossil plants, mammals and insects; Visually integrating several climate and environment reconstructions; Visualising changes in multiple data types over space and time (GIS); Interactive mapping interfaces, mixing modern and fossil distribution data; Data entry for multiple inter-linked databases, data synchronisation and cross-querying issues, complex data mining; Innovative interface design, potential systems for using large or multiple screens; Systems for highlighting potential indicators of human impact in fossil data. We will also initiate an international network on the workshop theme and outline opportunities for new, large scale, international collaborative research and development projects; as well as outline a small number of potential high impact publications based on the groups collective projects.
