Title [sv]
Den genetiska basen för evolutionära anpasningar i asp (Populus tremula)
Title [en]
The genetics of adaptation in European aspen (Populus tremula)
Abstract [sv]
The goal of this project is to develop a permanent resource for complex trait dissection in Populus tremula, by complete genome sequencing of a collection consisting of 120 genotypes. I will use this resource to study the genetic architecture of local adaptation and to study how various evolutionary processes have shaped genome-wide patterns of polymorphism in P. tremula. The main questions of interest are to characterize genome-wide patterns of polymorphism and genetic differentiation in P. tremula and to evaluate how these patterns have been shaped by historical processes and natural selection. Further I aim to identify regions of the genome that are likely targets of diversifying selection and that are involved in mediating local adaptation in P. tremula. Such regions should be easily identifed as regions showing unusually high levels of genetic differentiation. Finally I will study the genetic architecture of naturally occurring variation controlling local adaptation in P. tremula using association mapping. The focus will be on phenology traits involved in regulating seasonal growth rhythms in P. tremula.
