Title [sv]
CROCUS: Barnmorskors och obstetrikers perspektiv på obstetriskt ultraljud och den gravida kvinnans/fostrets roll och rättigheter
Title [en]
CROCUS - The cross-country ultrasound study: Midwives´ and obstetricians´ views of the use of ultrasound and maternal/fetal roles and rights
Abstract [sv]
The project aims to explore midwives and obstetricians views and experiences on the use of obstetric ultrasound in relation to clinical management and care, and maternal and fetal roles and rights, in low-income and high-income countries. Worldwide there is increasing use of obstetric ultrasound, and although generally beneficial, there is a lack of knowledge addressing situations where maternal and fetal health interests may conflict, and further an insufficient focus on the implications for reproductive rights, human rights and ethical concerns. The project targets different sociocultural/economic settings: Rwanda, Tanzania, Vietnam, Australia, Norway and Sweden. A two-step study design with a qualitative study followed by a quantitative study will be conducted in all six countries. Qualitative data will be collected through individual interviews with obstetricians and focus group discussions with midwives. Content analysis will be applied. Results of the qualitative studies will inform the development of a questionnaire that will be used across countries to quantify information reported in each national qualitative study. A national sample of approx. 500 midwives and 500 obstetricians from each country will be included in the survey. Results will be analysed quantitatively, for each country separately, followed by a cross-country analysis. This project aims to contribute by filling a knowledge gap, and equally importantly, to promote reproductive rights and health.
