The ?Contested Spaces: Bridging Protection and Development in a Globalizing World? theme has been developed to includes considerations that are urgent to many areas. Firstly, it problematizes the relationship between protection and development that is central to the society and resource management nexus. Secondly, it aims to place local development and protection debates in the context of globalization and urbanization which will have a fundamental impact on society and resource management. By bringing leading scholar togehther around themes such as 1) the Role of Globalization and Urbanization in Local Development and Protection Debates 2) Living and Working in Several Places: The Development of New Rural-Urban Relations 3) Place Attachment, Environmental Attitudes and Values 4) Sustainable Use of Forest Land, Parks and Protected Areas: Crowding and Carrying Capacity 5) Conflict Management, Policy, Planning and Public Involvement 6) Tourism and Regional Development, the aim of this conference is to address research needs and priorities and promote quality research related to the overarching theme of the conference.
