Title [sv]
Etio-patogenetiska faktorer av etydelse för utveckling av reumatoid artrit och dess progression. Analys av prospektivt material från biobanker i norra Sverige.
Title [en]
Aetio-pathogenic factors of importance for development of rheumatoid arthritis and of disease progression. Analyses of prospective material from biobanks of northern Sweden.
Abstract [en]
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a progressive destructive disease characterized by a symptom-free predating period with upregulated immunological activities (autoantibodies and inflammatory markers). We will analyse the etio-pathogenetic process predating onset of disease in samples from the Medical Biobank of northern Sweden from individuals before symptom onset of RA and also from individuals at risk (suspect arthralgia and relatives) to analyse factors with potential impact on the etio-pathogenesis.We will approach the complex process to identify the trigger of autoimmunity in multidimensial analysis of biomarkers (autoantibodies, soluble factors), the microbiom and by proteomics, lipidomics/metabolomics and microRNA. The objective is to investigate the interaction of genes and environment factors with biomarkers from the multi-assay techniques in causing immunity, leading to inflammatory disease, to develop predictive models thus, to identify individuals at risk. We have well-established collaborations with prominent research groups with acquired techniques. Our research will provide extraordinary opportunities to explore the mechanisms responsible for the phases that gradually lead to disease development by the access to samples from the Medical Biobank and our results so far are at the front line of this research area.RA is a disabling disease without cure so the ultimate goal is to identify individuals at risk to prevent the disease by early diagnosis and treatment.
