Future for the Past (Digital Transduction and Visualization of Historical Materials)

Historiker och arkeologer har alltmera börjat fokusera på digital förvandling av texter och material. Förvaringsplatser, databaser, 3D-artefakter, fördjupade miljöer, interaktiva kartor och dataspel är några av de medel där det förflutna reproduceras och förmedlas. Med tanke på att digitalisering skapar något som representerar med också delar originalets attributer är syftet att utforska de estetiska, politiska, ekonomiska och (im)materiella dimensionerna av digitalisering och ytterligare visualisering av tidigare texter och material. Teman inkluderar: 1. Visualisering av gränssnitt: digitaliserade manuskript och interaktiva kartor; 2. Augmented, Virtual, Gaming och Mixed Media; 3. Implementering, infrastruktur, politik och medborgarvetenskap (dvs. arkiv, kreativa media och kulturarv). Förutom det akademiska samtalet kommer konferensen att använda den unika miljön vid Institutet för Aten och dess omgivningar (ett brett utbud av museer och förvaringställen i närheten av arkeologiska platser) för att överbrygga humanistiska frågor med företagsledning (kreativ och kulturell industri, turism, och reklam). Workshopen kommer att kontextualisera digitalisering inom akademin, museer / kulturinstitutioner, och allmänheten.
Abstract [en]
Historians and archaeologists are gradually focusing more on the digital transduction of texts and materials. Repositories, databases, 3D artifacts, immersive environments, interactive maps, and computer games are ways in which the past is currently reproduced and conveyed. Taking into consideration that digitization creates a representation that shares some of the attributes of an original, the purpose of this conference is to explore the aesthetic, political, economic, and (im)material dimensions of digitization and further visualization of past texts and materials. Themes include 1. Visualizing Interfaces: Digitized Manuscripts, and Interactive Maps; 2. Augmented, Virtual, Gaming, and Mixed Media; 3. Implementation, Infrastructures, Policies, and Citizen Science; archives, for example, or the creative and cultural heritage industry. In addition to academic deliverables, the conference will use the unique environment of the Swedish Institute of Athens and its surroundings, a broad range of museums and repositories, archaeological sites in its proximity, to bridge humanistic questions with the needs of the creative and the cultural heritage industries, tourism, and advertising. The conference, overall, aims to contextualize digitization within academia, museums/cultural institutions, and the public.
