Disputationsämne: PsykologiAvhandling: The Transformational Leadership Process: Antecedents, Mechanisms, and Outcomes in the Social ServicesIn my thesis I studied the transformational leadership process in the Swedish social services. The aim was to increase the understanding of factors that explain when and why transformational leadership is effective in this particular context. Previous research has pointed out potential hindering factors for this leadership style in public organizations, such as hierarchical structure and large size. My thesis identified enabling factors in terms of organizational stability; when employees worked for the same leader for a longer period of time or when employees experienced social support from co-workers, the effect of a transformational leader on employee attitudes were stronger.
