Title [sv]
Roll och mekanismer för bakteriella nukleoid proteiner i kontroll av gene uttryck
Title [en]
The roles and mechanisms of bacterial nucleoid proteins in control of gene expression
Abstract [sv]
We study the molecular genetics of regulatory systems controlling the biogenesis of fimbrial adhesion factors in extraintestinal isolates of Escherichia coli. We have made several discoveries regarding the role of nucleoid-structuring protein H-NS in gene control at different levels in E. coli. Our aims are: *To clarify the interplay between H-NS and homologs/paralogues/partners of the H-NS protein family involved in transcriptional silencing in extraintestinal E. coli isolates. *To clarify the role and mode of action of bacterial nucleoid proteins in control of gene expression at post-transcriptional levels. *To clarify the molecular mode of action of regulatory proteins acting as anti-silencing factors in bacterial gene clusters encoding fimbrial adhesion organelles.
