The article’s aim is to clarify the definition of The Grand Tour. This term refers to the journey, done for educational reasons, but also for curiosity and pleasure, that the nobility and the rich European bourgeoisie were making through France and especially Italy. The period when The Grand Tour was at its peak runs from the beginning of 1600s to the first half of 1800s. After that we analyze the travel documents of Spanish travellers at that time in light of the previous definition of The Grand Tour. We arrive at the conclusion that Spain did not have a Grand Tour and we try to explain why.
L’articolo si propone di chiarire la definizione di Grand Tour. Con tale termine si intende il viaggio di istruzione di curiosità e di piacere che la nobiltà e la ricca borghesia europea compivano attraverso la Francia e soprattutto l’Italia. Il periodo di massimo sviluppo del Grand Tour va dall’inizio del 1600 alla prima metà dell’800. In seguito si analizza i documenti di viaggio di viaggiatori spagnoli in questo periodo alla luce della definizione di Grand Tour precedentemente data. Si arriva alla conclusione che la Spagna non ebbe il Grand tour e si cerca di individuare le ragioni.
