Due to climate changes and economic development the flood risk will increase. Therefore improvements are needed to guarantee safe flood protection. The current landscape completion makes it impossible to adjust the traditional dikes and alternative solutions are needed. Flood protection for urbanised areas can be developed in two ways: river expansion strategies in an urban context and adaptable flood defences for urban areas.
