Studiehall H: A new study hall for KTH

Abstract [en]
This project looks into a possible expansion of an existing structure at KTH. The proposal aims to add additional study spaces to the campus as well as expanding the existing fusion laboratory present within the structure. The university today has a lack of modern study spaces for its 13500 students as well as a plethora of space which could be used to reduce this need.
The expansion aimed to provide varied study spaces that cater to different types of people and their preferred way to study.
In addition to these spatial and programmatical arrangements the project also goes into detail on a technical level, with a heavy focus on re-usability. A modular structural system which does not use any permanent joining methods was created to minimize the risk of the structure ending up becoming waste. This system consists of glue laminated timber posts and beams connected through fossil free steel joints.
This is then combined with a channel glass curtain wall system which also emphasizes re-usability.
