Gestalt constructions (GC, constructions comprehended as a whole) play a special role in child language. This article analyzes GC in the speech of Russian-Swedish bilingual children in order to test the validity of the Delay Hypothesis and the divergent development/attainment hypothesis. In this study we argue that GC are separated later in bilingual than in monolingual children, which can be a sign of delayed acquisition in bilingual children. In the speech of bilingual children, we have also found grammatical gestalt constructions that are not characteristic of monolingual children, which in turn can support the divergent attainment hypothesis.
