Abstract [en]

Digital transformation is continuously reshaping organizations, however the effects this with the current managerial strategies has on employee well-being remains unexplored. While previous research was conducted on efficiency, no focus has been put on change fatigue and its possible impact. To increase our understanding of this phenomenon, we conducted a qualitative case study, with semi-structured interview. We focused on one department’s digital transformation journey in the public sector, gathering insights from their management level. Our findings emphasize the significance of early employee inclusion from structured communication pathways and attentive leadership strategies to mitigate change fatigue throughout digital transformation. When management are establishing increased transparency while cultivating employee commitment, they can bridge the existing gap of experienced change fatigue between management and the employees. Our study contributes to research by incorporating a psychological phenomenon and applying it to the public sector, which also provides practical guidance for strengthening change management strategies.
