This special issue, Rethinking Educational Spaces: Future Classroom, Metaverse and AI, emerges from the recognition that educational spaces are undergoing accelerated and unprecedented change. The digitalization of education, fuelled by the expansion of AI, immersive technologies, and ubiquitous connectivity, is not only altering pedagogical practices but also transforming the very nature of educational space itself. On the one hand, in schools, classrooms are no longer solely physical places enclosed by four walls and marked by timetables. Instead, they now include virtual extensions, blended experiences, and algorithmically mediated interactions. On the other hand, we are also beginning to find evidence of how this technology is starting to affect educational practices in non-school settings. The articles included in this special issue explore the ontological, pedagogical, and political implications of these new environments transformed by digital technologies.
