Abstract [en]

In the face of escalating global challenges such as climate change, social inequality, and ecological degradation, higher education institutions (HEIs) must evolve to effectively support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Transdisciplinary approaches, which foster innovative educational practices for positive change, have gained increasing attention from educators and scholars. By integrating diverse perspectives and collective thinking, these approaches break down traditional academic silos, encouraging collaboration among scholars, practitioners, and community 'heartholders' to drive impactful action toward achieving the SDGs. This commentary reflects on the critical role of transdisciplinary approaches in higher education, highlighting examples of successful implementations from universities around the world. These models have had significant impacts on curriculum development, student engagement, and community partnerships, demonstrating the potential for transformative educational environments that embrace complexity and promote inclusivity. We explore the challenges and opportunities that arise when adopting transdisciplinary methods and call for higher education institutions to integrate these approaches to contribute meaningfully to the achievement of the SDGs. This commentary aims to expand the understanding of regenerative education, offering insights and practical strategies to inspire HEIs to adopt transdisciplinary practices as a pathway toward a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable future.
