    Abstract [en]

    A stationary sequence of Bernoulli(p) distributed variables is considered. For a general class of 1-dependent sequences the minimum and the maximum of the lag 1 autocorrelation is found. The correlation is never below −1/3 and attains this value only for certain values of p.

    Abstract [en]

    A central limit theorem for strong mixing sequences is given that applies to both non-stationary sequences and triangular array settings. The result improves on an earlier central limit theorem for this type of dependence given by Politis, Romano and Wolf in 1997.

    Abstract [en]

    A very general measure of skewness based on the quantiles is introduced, which includes several well-known measures as special cases. Sample versions of our measure may be used as test statistics for testing the hypothesis of symmetry about an unknown value. We provide large sample theory for such a statistic and discuss the asymptotic relative efficiencies of this against some competing test statistics for symmetry.

    We introduce uncertainty regions to perform inference on partial correlations when data are missing not at random. These uncertainty regions are shown to have a desired asymptotic coverage. Their finite sample performance is illustrated via simulations and real data example.

    The repeated Poisson sampling design is a new design for selecting a sample of fixed size with unequal inclusion probabilities. The design is very close to the conditional Poisson sampling design, but the implementation of the RP-design is much more efficient.

    An estimator is proposed for semiparametric linear regression models with left truncated and right censored dependent variables. The estimator is derived from a moment condition following the principles of Newey [Newey, W.K., 2001. Conditional moment restrictions in censored and truncated regression models. Econometric Theory 17, 863–888] on conditional moment conditions. Consistency of the estimator is shown and simulation is used for illustration of the small sample properties.

    Abstract [en]

    We consider quantization of continuous-valued random variables and processes in a probabilistic framework. Stochastic structure for non-uniform quantization errors is studied for a wide class of random variables. Asymptotic properties of the additive quantization noise model for a random process are derived for uniform and non-uniform quantizers. Some examples and numerical experiments demonstrating the rate of convergence in the obtained asymptotic results are presented.
